Unable to Resolve 192.168.1.1 Error

Can’t Access 192.168.1.1


If you need to access your router settings, you need to login using the 192.168.1.1 IP address. Some routers may use 192.168.0.1 as their default IP address. If you are having trouble entering the login screen, you need to open Control Panel and search for ‘network’. Click on ‘View Network Connections under Network and Sharing Center’.

Now, you need to right-click on the Ethernet adapter and select Properties. Scroll down the list and look for Internet Protocol Version 4.

Now click on Internet Protocol Version 4 and then click Properties. See if Obtain an IP address automatically is selected. In addition, check of Obtain DNS server address automatically is selected.

Now entre the 192.168.1.1 into the address bar and see if the login screen of your router is accessible.

Resetting Router to Factory Settings


In case the above method fails, you need to reset your router to factory settings. You can do this by pressing a tiny button on the router by inserting a paper clip or pin in the reset hole.

Once the router is reset, you need to again enter 192.168.1.1. This will definitely help in getting access to the login page. If you are able to login, you should change the default network SSID and password.

A computer network can be of many types based on size, geographical distance covered, capabilities as well as the type of services they provide.

Personal Area Network

LAN can be differentiated from other types of computer networks by:

  • The transmission technology used
  • Topology of the network

A LAN has restricted size and therefore makes it very simple to manage. It uses very inexpensive hardware technology such as Ethernet cables. The speed of transmission for a LAN ranges from 10Mbps to 100 Mbps.

Wide Area Network

The LAN is connected to WAN using routers. It transfers data and information quickly and securely. As WANs are too large, one administrator cannot manage it alone. Thus, it usually has a collective ownership or remains publically owned like the Internet.

Metropolitan Area Network


The Metropolitan area network is larger than a LAN. But, it is smaller than WAN. However, it has certain features of both LAN and WAN. It covers a town or a city and can be owned by a single person or a company. For example, a cable television network that provides Internet connection in a particular city.

Virtual Private Networks


VPN offers links or connections to noes that are connected through the virtual circuits. It does not use cables or wires to connect devices; instead, it uses a virtual private network. The topology of a VPN is more complex than the point-to-point network.
